The San Francisco 49ers played the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Niners came in favored, but down in injury. Nick Mullens started for the Niners who were coming off a win against the Jets at MetLife. Mullens had 200+ yard games in all his starts. He is 6'1" and 210 pounds. He is 3-5 as a starter. Mullens was born on March 21, 1995. He went to Southern Mississippi. He had 928 completions and 11,994 yards with a completion percentage of 60%. He had 7.8 yards per attempt with 87 touchdowns, 46 interceptions, and a 137.8 QB rating. He broke Brett Favre's record playing for the Golden Eagles. Favre had 7,695 yards and 52 touchdowns in his 4 year span with the Golden Eagles. Mullens beat that with 4,299 more yards and 35 more touchdowns in his 4 year stint with the Golden Eagles. Mullens signed with the Niners as an undrafted free agent in 2017.
Mullens got to play in 2018 when Jimmy Garrapolo tore his ACL. He went 3-5, and had 2,277 yards with 10 interceptions and 13 touchdowns. He had 8.3 yards per attempt. He started against the Giants in 2018 at Levi's Stadium. The Giants won 27-23. The Niners had to turn to him Sunday.
The Niners opened the 1st quarter scoring 2 field goals Robbie Gould. In the second the Giants fired back with 2 field goals. The Niners than replied with a touchdown from Jerick McKinnon. Jones then threw an interception picked by Fred Warner. The Niners closed it out with a field goal, and led 16-6 at half. The Giants brought it within 7 with another field goal from Graham Gano. Brandon Aiyuk scored on a beautiful 19 yard rush to give the Niners a 16 point lead. The Niners held Jones at the New York 30 and capitalized with a touchdown catch from Jeff Wilson Jr. However, Long snapper Nelson was feeling unwell and the snap failed and the Niners only went up 29-9 to close out the 3rd. Jeff Wilson ran the ball in for touchdown as the 4th quarter started to close. The Giants fumbled the ball, and the Niners took it out from there, and won 36-9.
Nick Mullens had an incredible game. He was 25 for 36 passing. He passed for 343 yards and 1 touchdown. He got a 80 QBR. THIS SEASON IS NOT OVER!!!!! GO NINERS!!!!!!
