UFC 257 started with stream errors and ended surprisingly. There were major streaming errors on the West Coast. ESPN+ servers just showed a black screen. Over 1.2 million had payed $69.99 and couldn't stream the fight. Until the Eye-Calderwood fight, servers on the west coast were down.
The fights were on Fight Island in a 30 foot octagon. Fight Island is in Abu Dhabi. Fighters showed up ready to fight. The maincard was stacked with great fights. Dan "The Hangman" Hooker was facing "Iron" Michael Chandler in the co-main event in the lightweight division. Hooker came ranked 6th in the world in the lightweight division. Hooker was heavily favored as Chandler was coming into his first fight in the UFC. Chandler had been an All-American wrestler out of Missouri. He has been fighting in MMA and said the UFC wasn't going to know what hit them. Hooker came in saying that he was going to stop Chandler. Chandler knew Hooker top to bottom and avoided Hooker's calf shots. Chandler took down Hooker and started punching him in the head until the referee broke it up. Chandler then went to the top of the cage and did a back flip to celebrate his first win in the UFC. Chandler knocked out Hooker with 2:31 left in round 1. Chandler showed that he is someone to be reckoned with in the UFC. Chandler landed 17 strikes and 17 significant strikes while Hooker landed 8 stikes and 8 signifigant strikes. Chandler is now 1-0-0 and Hooker is now 20-9-0.
Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier fought Conor "The Nitorious" McGregor in the main event for the lightweight division. Porier is #2 in the world while Conor is #4. Porier lost to McGregor in 2014 in their first fight. In Round 1, McGregor led and won the round 10-9. They both were tiring each other out. Porier landed some nice calf kicks, and started tiring McGregor out. McGregor was then knocked down and the ref called it. Poirier won by KO with 2:34 in Round 2. Both fighters had respect for eachother and want to have a 3rd fight because they are 1-1 against eachother. Porier landed more strikes (53-52) and way more signifigant strikes (48-29). Porier had 1 knockdown while McGregor had 0. I look forward to fight #3. I will talk more on my podcast. Porier surprised everyone. I am a fan of both fighters (I support McGregor when they fight eachother), and enjoy seeing them fight. They are both the heart of the UFC, and are extremely talented and fun to watch. Good luck to both of them. McGregor is now 22-5-0. Poirier is now 27-6-0.
