Poirier knocks out McGregor in round 2 at UFC 257

UFC 257 started with stream errors and ended surprisingly. There were major streaming errors on the West Coast. ESPN+ servers just showed a black screen. Over 1.2 million had payed $69.99 and couldn't stream the fight. Until the Eye-Calderwood fight, servers on the west coast were down.

The fights were on Fight Island in a 30 foot octagon. Fight Island is in Abu Dhabi. Fighters showed up ready to fight. The maincard was stacked with great fights. The 2 early prelims were Amir Albazi v. Zhalgas Zhumagulov in the flyweight division and Nik Lentz v. Movsar Evloev in the catchweight division. Albazi beat Zhumagulov by decision and Evloev beat Lentz by decision too. In the prelims, Khalil Rountree Jr. faced Marcin Prachnio in the light heavyweight division. Julianna Peña faced Sara McMann in the woman's banterweight division. Brad Tavares faced Antonio Carlos Junior in the middleweight division. Arman Tsarukyan faced Matt Frevola in the last prelim fight in the lightweight division. Prachnio upset Rountree Jr. by decision while Peña also upset McMann won by submission. Tavares beat Junior by decision along with Tsarukyan beat Frevola by decision to close out the prelims.

In the main card Marina Rodriguez faced Amanda Ribas in the women's strawweight bout. Rodriguez was ranked 8th in the world and Ribas was ranked 10th. Rodriguez came in as the heavy underdog, but surprised everyone when she knocked Ribas in the 2nd Round with 1 minute left in the round. Ribas landed more strikes with 35 against 26. Ribas is now 10-2-0 and Rodriguez is now

Andrew "El Ditre" Sanchez faced Makhmud "Mach" Muradov in the Middleweight Division. Mach came in favored against El Ditre. The fight started out crazily and it went into the 3rd round. With 3 minutes left, Mach knocked out El Ditre. Muradov landed more strikes (82-50) and more signifigant strikes (79-48). Muradov is now 24-6-0 while Sanchez is now 13-5-0.

In the Women's Flyweight division American Jessica Eye faced Scot Joanne Calderwood and the fight went to a decision. "Evil" Jessica Eye came in as a very slight underdog, ranked 6th in the world while Joanne "Jojo" Calderwood came in ranked 7th in the world. Calderwood landed more strikes (214-104) and more significant strikes (148-77). They both had 1 takedown. Calderwood was dominant throughout the fight and won by decision.

Dan "The Hangman" Hooker was facing "Iron" Michael Chandler in the co-main event in the lightweight division. Hooker came ranked 6th in the world in the lightweight division. Hooker was heavily favored as Chandler was coming into his first fight in the UFC. Chandler had been an All-American wrestler out of Missouri. He has been fighting in MMA and said the UFC wasn't going to know what hit them. Hooker came in saying that he was going to stop Chandler. Chandler knew Hooker top to bottom and avoided Hooker's calf shots. Chandler took down Hooker and started punching him in the head until the referee broke it up. Chandler then went to the top of the cage and did a back flip to celebrate his first win in the UFC. Chandler knocked out Hooker with 2:31 left in round 1. Chandler showed that he is someone to be reckoned with in the UFC. Chandler landed 17 strikes and 17 significant strikes while Hooker landed 8 stikes and 8 signifigant strikes. Chandler is now 1-0-0 and Hooker is now 20-9-0.

Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier fought Conor "The Nitorious" McGregor in the main event for the lightweight division. Porier is #2 in the world while Conor is #4. Porier lost to McGregor in 2014 in their first fight. In Round 1, McGregor led and won the round 10-9. They both were tiring each other out. Porier landed some nice calf kicks, and started tiring McGregor out. McGregor was then knocked down and the ref called it. Poirier won by KO with 2:34 in Round 2. Both fighters had respect for eachother and want to have a 3rd fight because they are 1-1 against eachother. Porier landed more strikes (53-52) and way more signifigant strikes (48-29). Porier had 1 knockdown while McGregor had 0. I look forward to fight #3. I will talk more on my podcast. Porier surprised everyone. I am a fan of both fighters (I support McGregor when they fight eachother), and enjoy seeing them fight. They are both the heart of the UFC, and are extremely talented and fun to watch. Good luck to both of them. McGregor is now 22-5-0. Poirier is now 27-6-0.

Keys of the night:

  1. McGregor didn't seem in it. Both fighters seemed very tired after 3 minutes.

  2. McGregor is back!

  3. Jake Paul is annoying (We already know that)

  4. McGregor isn't fighting Jake

  5. Both fighters mean business

  6. Iron Michael is deadly
